sagger sawdust firings in gas kiln

Dear clayarters,
Has anyone had any first hand
experience with sagger firing inside a gas kiln? I
have read all I can find about the process and
yesterday did my first firing. The piece came out just
gorgeous! I bisque fired my terra sig piece to 010 and
then for the second firing built up a little brick
enclosure, filled it with sawdust shavings ,my pot,
and covered it with a kiln shelf. I raised the heat
fast reaching 750 celcius in about a half an hour. I
waited until the day after to open up the kiln. No
cracks!
My kiln is insulated with fiber and upon opening today
I must say that the white fiber is blacker. Will this
adversely affect my kiln the smoke that permeates
during the firing? Will the fiber be less effective?
Is there anything I should be really careful with? I
mean I am not to keen on blowing myself up. I was very
careful that the gas burners were always lit. I would
love to continue these firings. Any suggestions?
Thank you
Karen
Ah by the way snail thanks once again for all the
posts about the bronze patinas. I will be getting back
my first pieces from the foundry shortly and canīt
wait to experiment.
