Dear Clayart,
I am back from more travels in Italy. Pietro maddalena took me to visit
some ceramic sculptors near Padova, Lee Babel and Alessio Tasco. They
are in their 70's. Lee is having an exhibition in Venice in Sept. at the
Chiostro di San Giuseppe di Castello.
Alessio just had a big exhibition at the International Museum of
Ceramics last may.
Alessio does large extruded forms with lots of interior fomrs. He wood
fires but is interested in soda firing his pieces. His work appeared in
Charlotte Speight's book on Ceramic Sculpture.
I really loved the forms. He should be in the next extruder book.
Lee 's work is also wonderful. She has built interior wood stove and
fire place surrounds.
Some can even cook food.
In their studio they build one stove, heater and stairway combination.
She uses a combination of Italain toasty colored clay with inserts of
color from glazed pieces from Germany. Her work is meticulous. I hope to
write an article about them. I think I have some good photos.
I have to get back to work, been out of the studio too much.
Hope to start reading clayart again.
Nice to be home.
Ciao,
Marcia

Dear Marcia

Did you know Alessio Tasca is also a "Path Maker"? One of very few
Italian representatives... As you are a Path Maker too, you had/have
more in common than you thought! I wish you had said you would be
visiting... You could have given a big proxy hug from Wales! Whoever
denies it is a small world, just has no idea...
