crawling majolica

I have been testing white bases for my claybody, I think I'm up to eight so
far.
The problem I am having on my test peices is crawling,
to various degrees on all glazes. The problem is the worst where the black I
use for outlining goes over a color or sometimes at the edge of the colored
overglaze. I am using the GDC Amaco colors thinned with some liquid starch
on all pieces for consistancy in these tests. All the test peices came out of
the same bisque 04 firing.
What am I doing wrong?

What causes the white base to be very transparent? When I tried my first =
attempt
at majolica, I made the while very thick and it still looks transparent a=
nd not
very even.

I have just ended a Majolica course at the Corcoran Art Gallery. We have
found that one has to be very careful about the thickness of the white
glaze. Have you tried to water the glaze down more than you normally do?
I have also found that if you wet the piece with water (and let it dry a
little) before putting the glaze on, it helps. Good luck!
