Hi all!

Do anyone have hints for volcanic craterlike glazes for 1260 degrees
celcius, or know of articles or other usefull information?

Thanks a lot.

Hello Morton
Please enter to this page the first picture on the left side

Make 2 slabs. divide it to squares.
let's say three on ten ones.
You need Silicon carbide 100# you buy it from abrasive supply house.
For the first slab you prepare the slips of the same claybody you use: Wit=
h 1 , 2 and
3% SiC
and apply it along the slab.
Fire it to the cone you want: Apply one it ten favorite matte glazes of y=
ours. You can
try gloss ones too but the success is low.

To the second slab where you have not apply slip, AFTER the bisque apply t=
en matte
glazes with 1, 2 and three % SiC 100#.
You will find out the best result for your condition.

Just add 5% SiC to any glaze. You will get craters.
If you want larger ones, just add more.
For local reduction, add about .5% with .5% or less CuO for copper reds, if
you are lucky.
Forget the decimal point and you end up with the wrong result!
Done it!

Hi Morten,
From Håndbog i studiokeramik af Claus Domine Hansen:

I have not tried it, but here is the recipe

Crawling Glaze 1220-1280c

30 Magnesium carb. light
30 Natron feldspar
10 Borax frit
5 Zinc oxide
15 Kaolin
10 Dolomite

also

No. 2 recipe
21 Magnesium carb. light
57 Neph. Syenite
22 Ball Clay

or try (from Ababi and I find over 40% thick, works)
No. 3 recipe
Add between 30 to 50% Magnesium carb. to any of your glazes and glaze
thickly.
