I received so many wonderful ideas from this list in response to pedestal
alternatives for use with crystal glazes- thank you!
This weekend I tested a small piece by using a coil ring of wadding under
the piece, on top of a plate. It worked wonderfully. The piece came off
easily. The glaze didn't follow the conture of the pot, but instead formed
a couple of droplets around the foot. There was no risk of chipping the
work's foot.
And it was also a single fire experiment to boot!
I will test more with different foot styles and sizes.
