deflocculating throwing clay?

My advice to whoever started talking about deflocculating throwing clay would
be to do quite the opposite.
I use a flocculant in every batch of clay that I make. It makes the clay far
more plastic. Use caution when doing that because you can go too far with it.
I use a precipitated calcium chloride preparation. I don't know where I get
it because I am not at the shop and I don't have the address in front of me.
You can also use Snow White. USG, the plaster people, make it, but it is hard
to get them to ship you any. I also have used Epsom salts, and I once used
plaster. I know that it goes against everything that we were told in school
about plaster, but it does work.
Unless you have enough time on your hands to play with making your clay more
plastic, and really have a need for your clay being more plastic I would
leave it alone. It takes a lot of testing to establish the correct amount of
flocculants to add to a batch. Most clays are suitable just the way they are.
