Hello,
I was taught the easiest way to "stretch" NEW elements to their proper size
by Lee Shank, a local potter guru. First unplug the kiln, remove the old
element and order the correct element (duh, but I got it wrong once). Next,
carefully put a string ( I use an old vacuum power cord) or whatever into
the empty element groove and mark the "ends". Then, take your new element
and the "string" for measurement and clamp one end of each to a table. ** Be
careful not to damage the element and do not include the pigtails for
measurement** Once carefully clamped, use pliers or vice grips to "stretch
the element to the length of the "string". Use short, even
pulls........little by little until the element is just the right length.
That should do it. I do this when I have to replace an element. Try it!
Thank you,
Chris Jones
