losing my apprentice to minneapolis

Dear Friends,

For the past year I had a young man by the name of Martin helping me out in
my studio while he did a year of service work for Americorp. He recycled
and wedged up all my clay (in return he used as much of it as he wanted,
although he paid for firings), made glazes, helped with chores. He's
improved considerably in a year, and I'm sad to see him go!

He's on his way to Minneapolis for grad school at the U. of M. (not in
ceramics), and I told him I'd put the word out and see if there were any
potters in the area that had studio space in exchange for chores, or if
anyone knew where he should start when seeking out a community pottery
studio. He's a great guy - the kind of guy you actually WANT in your
studio!

Let me know off list if you have any information I can share with him or if
you'd like to make contact with him.

I second this referral!!

Martin IS extremely helpful, kind, caring, and
honest.. If we had thought in advance, I would have
said lets clone him a couple times over. -- wait maybe
I did say that :)

If you are in Minneapolis my suggestion would be to
jump on this offer.....

Jonathan,

I would recommend that he check out Fired Up. It is a great inexpensive
clay studio with great fascilities and he may have an opportunity pending on
his skills to teach some classes there. It is also not too huge and he
won't get lost in the numbers. If he is interested in wood firing, have him
contact me.
