2nds at sale

I beg to differ. Several years ago a few folks who could not afford my
work asked if I had any seconds. I told them that I didn't because I thought
that selling seconds was wrong and a sign of poor craftsmanship. It was
subsequently pointed out to me that some of the pieces that had hair line
cracks (for the record I do raku) were perfectly acceptable with the
exception of the aformentioned flaws. I started selling the "2nds" for
between 10 and 20 bucks. They would normally have gone for $100 or more. The
customers were happy, especially the ones who couldn't afford the more
expensive work and I ended up with a few more dollars in the till.

If it is for food use we never sell seconds. Sure, someone said they
were selling raku seconds, but seconds just come back to haunt you if
they end up back in the kitchen. On a vase the definition of a second
becomes more situational.
