ramble...or maybe a digression...
Dear Anita,
Yup...
Well put...
And...for me...I am much more toward 'afraid' and distrustful of
'this'...and of my 'government', and also of the liabilities to which my
neighbor may subject himself or me, in his facile, nervous or wan
aquiescences, or perfunctory, pedantic, or busybody 'duty', than
that I vex over the dramatics or gestures attributed purportedly to =
pesky
'foreign' zelots as may make mischief or mayhem for me or others to be=20
inconvenienced by.
Far as I can tell, it all smacks of "The BIG Sell"...with lotsa twists =
and
turns to get our attentions confused or inspired...should inspired they =
be,
and for me
they are, in-a-way, but for others they seem not...others seem to like
'prima-facie'
or less, as good enuf, or that's my friendly wager on it: it IS the 'Big
Sell', a-go-go, and it is workin' and getting "worked" too...pretty =
hard.
It is a curious situation, to be sure...no matter 'what'...
And too...I am amused to find, 'Big Sell' or no, that the 'Crucades' =
figurative and otherwise, be
maybe not
so much 'over' as that they remain somewhat attenuatin' and wigglin' and
a-permutatein'
still...with a lot less spunk and pageant maybe, maybe 'none'...less
Gallentry, or maybe more like no
Gallantry, and a lot less 'Romance'...maybe no Romance either...and a =
lot
less mutual respect for eachother as adversaries than had the 'old'
versions...maybe 'none' on that one, too...
At least the earlier rounds, our boys brought back 'Soap',
coitus-interruptus, a taste for certain syncopations and rythums of the =
Drum
and Song Notes, better 'Steel', Algebra, some smattering of Interior =
Physiology notes,
some Astronomical 'primers', a taste for Literacy, a
desire for 'History', some notions on Accounting Methods as interested
Underwriters, and some other happy enough ideas as maketh things a
mite nicer maybe...we got some education out of it, and the middle of =
'East'
was
respected nicely enough for a long time.
I am not too sure what they got out of it...got to hunt down a lot of
European folks
scattered and starveing in their Deserts, I suppose...rubbed 'em out at
their liesure...
It had 'fit' into our Cosmologies and Cosmography...well enough, I =
think...
What ever are they now I wonder...our Cosmologies and Cosmographies?
Maybe we should ask 'science'...or 'business'...or 'government'...they =
can tell us...they been
a tellin' us for some while...
We been a lookin' a long time now for advise on just what a Man or Woman
'is', and 'science' and 'business' and 'government' will gladly tell ya =
too. They'll supply
the 'Cosmologies' and the 'Cosmographies' and tell ye 'where' ye stand =
in
'em...
But I digress...sort of...
'Araby'...was 'Romance'...
Horses and Steel and Blood and long of sojourns were a Man's business to
accept, the pretexts were about as 'good' as any anyway, or should he =
assume
them to be...and some did...and it got ye 'off-the-farm' too...and...
Not now...
Mostly...all of this is 'terrorist' stuff...is just...a drag...just
everybody gettin' more stupid than they were before.
An exclaimation in a larger 'drag' of people who are a drag...
Both 'sides'...(Oh the 'yin-and-yan' of it!)...big drag...
...what a BORE...what a terribly curious maybe thrilling bore...so far =
as
"WHAT' may be seen,
conjectured or glimpsed TO be a-goin on...
Like any 'puzzle', the
'picture-on-the-box'
may NOT be quite the depiction the pieces would make...if they spoke fer
themselves...if we let 'em...if we had 'em set together an' layed out, =
an'
could see 'em...it is maybe, so far as the presentation we get... not so
'easy' to see...
I just had the words 'Warren Report' pop into my little punkin =
head...ever
read it?
About all we got...is the 'pictures-on-the-box'...the 'Sell', an' I do =
not
wish to confuse
that...with what it is not...with the 'contents' so-to-speak...
We 'get' what we are 'told'...or maybe (of) what we may construe IN the =
'what' as we are 'told'...
The few 'pieces' as I maybe can 'see'...well...they say of something =
'else'
than what the 'said' is from the 'box' lid and all...somethin' much more
curious...and much more disappointing maybe...in it's way...
...sigh...
'Cosmologies' and Cosmographies and our stance in 'em...(or projection =
of
'em...TO be a-standin' in 'em...)
That never ends.
No matter 'whom' we get 'em from...or if we examine 'em, and we will get
'em, or make 'em for ourselves, one way or another....that is what we =
have
to work with.
An' ye gotta work with what ye got...
Yes?
Yes.

In the mist of INS/government bureaucracy bashing, there are a couple =
things
that seem to have been overlooked. Since Sept. 11, INS employees and
airport screeners are two groups that have been evaluated, criticized,
second-guessed, scrutinized, and overhauled. Being "flexible" and =
"thinking
on their feet" is not something they are being encouraged to do. They =
have
been mandated to do everything by the book: no deviations, no =
exceptions.
They do not make the rules, they are enforcing the rules and laws that =
those
we elect have written. It's a bit like being angry with the salesclerk
because the store he/she works for has a lousy return policy.
I'm sure some individuals are rude--I know if no occupation that is =
devoid
of rude individuals. My personal experience with INS has been benign. =
My
impression was of people doing a job: nothing more or less.
We as a country must also remember that when we give government agencies =
the
power to suspend or limit the rights of others in the name of preserving
freedom it can just as easily be us, our friends, and our relatives. =
The
thinking seems to be that it's OK as long as WE aren't inconvenienced. =
Sort
of the personal version of NIMBY (not in my backyard). Unfortunately, =
the
historical record would seem to indicate that power and authority =
without
accountability takes on a life of its own.
Anita
