Hey Jami (and all),
I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned
firing down as an option for better glaze depth. Maybe
I misread the first post, but I have noticed a huge
difference in depth and personality of my pieces from
the firings before firing down, and this last one,
where I did it for two hours.
I got great little crystals, more shine and
variation, more all around oomph (no better word to
describe it...), and while the addition of slip could
certainly brighten up a piece, slow cooling can really
add to the overall effect.
As for the goddesses; they're all different, and
I'll work on getting a digital picture out, though
mine hasn't been bisque fired yet. Went to the Laloba
Ranch a few years ago, MAN did we make some nasty
ones. Seem to sort of go hand in hand with Tony's "Is
That A Banana In Your Pocket..." envelope pockets.
Lately, mine are nude, not too detailed in the body,
but with a really expressive face, and huge hands
outstretched toward the sky, and big feet for suport.
She has an expression on her face that I want to have
when I open the kiln after a firing. Bliss, and smug
pride. Later! Jules
