which kiln do you recommend?

Here's a thought..... I bought my kiln on EBay for $350. It's an older
Paragon, 17.5" dia X 18" deep. It has the Dawson kiln sitter. I see them
there all the time with pictures of the exterior and interior and the model
info so you can check out the dealer's specs. Last week there was an Aim,
27" X 28" that went for under $600. The kiln had a plug-in controller that
appeared to be the ramp type. Important, if you go this route, do not ever
ever ship UPS. If you can't go pick it up, forget it. There's a woman here
in Yuma who has my exact kiln for $150 because 'she wants her patio back.'
Used kilns have full sets of shelves and posts, etc. Incidently, I fire at
^10.

I am happy with my L&L...you might want to add that to your 4 brands.

I would not recommend Olympic. The owner is as arrogant as they come and
does not stand behind the equipment. I have owned one of their kilns for
some time and have had very bad experiences when I needed information and
assistance. When I first bought the kiln and had a problem, the dealer
refused to call the company out of fright.

Hi Mercy,
Having done a lot of research myself recently, I came up with L & L =
as my choice for a variety of reasons. First, they have ceramic holders =
for the elements so they stay in place better and don't sag out if the =
firebrick gets cracked. This supposedly also makes them easy to change. =
There are many other reasons why I chose L & L, but I suggest you check =
out their website. (Sorry to say I don't have the address but it =
shouldn't be hard to find) Definitely check it out before you make up =
your mind!---"willie"

I can really reccomend the Skutt. I have a 1027. I fired it over 450 times
on the original elements (cone 09, 5, and 6). I have since replaced them
and we're still cookin'. It has been a very reliable kiln, fires relatively
evenly, and is easy to work on. I have also had good experience with their
customer service the few times I have called.

Hey Mercy,
I LOVE my Skutt 1227. With an Envirovent, I can't
ever smell a thing, and the heatwork isn't horrible
(my basement seems to be around ninety five degrees in
general, due to the weather; the heat from the Skutt
is negligible). I contacted Bennet's in Florida, and
got it for around $1,600, and I think that included
the shelves and posts. It has a kiln sitter, no
computer. Works like a dream. Jules

Hello,

We have 1 L&L (a great kiln) and have owned 2 others,
1 Haugen oval (now olympic) and it is a work horse even after 30+ years,
2 Skutts (always dependable) For sale
1 Blue Diamond (we have used it maybe 2 times), For Sale
and 1 huge old dinosaur in storage (works, but don't have room in the
garage. Not for sale.

As you can see, we have and have tried many brands and all tend to be
similar. Overall, I prefer the L&L due to its dependability, element holders
(great idea), and the great service. Actually, I haven't needed anything
from L&L, but I read the posts they write on Clayart. Always seem helpful,
attentive to your needs, and monitor Clayart!

Just my 2 cents.
Thank you,
Chris Jones
