I had the pleasure of attending a workshop with Randy at the Metchosin
International Summer School of the Arts and it was fabulous, fun, enriching
and an experience I will remember for a long time. It was a firing workshop
and we did saggar, raku, salt, soda, reduction, wood and quick fire ^6+. We
built a small wood fired kiln before we fired it. What a full 5 days...I've
come home inspired and renewed with energy and direction.

I also had a pleasure of peaking in at what Lana Wilson was doing with her
group...and I think that's on my agenda for next year.

MISSA is great fun, beautiful environment, great instructors and everyone
who can, should sign up for next summer!!

The Nevada Clay Guild in Las Vegas, NV just finished hosting a 2 day
workshop with Randy Brodnax. We started out Friday evening with a social
and slides by Randy, followed up by two intensive days of demos and work.
Randy is a transplanted Louisianan living in Texas. He put on a great
workshop with real Southern flair!! Saturday night he cooked blackened
catfish and "dirty" rice for us. His cooking is almost as good as his
potting. If you get a chance, don't miss this experience!!!

I have to second Earl's recommendation. I think we hosted Randy right before he went to Las Vegas. We had 3 days of throwing and 3 of firing. Learned lots of new techniques. But more than that, Randy has Soul. He is a gifted teacher who shared himself as well as his clay abilities, and he knew how to reach potters of varied abilities and stress levels! The potter who hosted the workshop has taught at the college level and taken workshops all over the country. His conclusion: Randy's was the absolute best.

Randy Brodnax “The Dynamic Potential of Clay”
August 1 – 5, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
$350, Lunch included

Texas craftsman Randy Brodnax will delight and amaze students with his
charming manner and plethora of pottery skills. Students will spend time
working on the wheel and improving their throwing technique. This workshop
will also feature decorative processes and firing techniques. Participants
will explore the dynamic potential of lichen glazes, copper flashing, and
oxide application. Pieces may be fired with a range of high-fire and
low-fire techniques, including wood and gas-fired raku, saggar pits, and
sawdust reductions.

Randy Brodnax, a life-long potter and educator from Dallas, Texas, promises
to entertain as he shares with participants his experiences in firing
everything from functional dinnerware to large decorative vessels. A
Louisiana native who has retained much of the Cajun joie de vivre with which
he was raised, Randy has spent a career building bridges among clay artists
of all levels of experience. Participants in his workshops are helped to
seek a refined focus, new direction, or simply to find camaraderie among
clay artists.
