thanks re firing gemstones question

Grateful thanks to all who responded, Apart from learning another range =
of interesting and informative new facts, I now have sufficient info to =
deter a well meaning customer who insisted that it must be possible to =
do this without damage!

Avril:
Don't put your self in the position of saying for certain that man made
stones will not fracture during a firing. I have used them in lost wax
successfully, however the temperature was not over 1200 to 1300 degrees F.
Rate of increase and decrease are very important factors. Slow rate of
increase and decrease in temperature is mandatory.
