I called Bailey to find out if there were any wheels I could test here in
Berkeley. The reply was no, but could buy at a discount [it was not
considered new as it had been used....in the pmi test] their ProX. Not the
higher 1/2 hp PROXL, the 1/4 hp proX , a fact that escaped me at the time.
I have decided that a wheel that can center 50 lbs is probably just fine.
It arrived today. A friend and I spent 3 hours putting it together. It does
take time and patience, although it is well designed. I wanted a wheel that
had leg extensions, so I could learn to throw standing up.
This seems to be a very nice wheel. Very very quiet.
I too have an ancient Skutt, that I dearly love. Very smooth, almost
totally trouble free. I did have to change the pedal to a Brent pedal, so I
could move it around. My feeling is that the Bailey design resembles the
Skutt. Very smooth foot pedal, though this one is free to begin with.
Similar frame surrounding entire edge of wheel . A built in drain for
excess water.
When I started to throw, the first piece was a bit wobbly, and I realized I
have to learn to stabilize my arms differently. By the fourth piece, I was
very confident. The legs are pretty easy to adjust, and I will probably try
different heights as I look for the best height.
Another nice feature, although it hasn't arrived yet, I ordered the parts
that make a shelf possible above the wheel surface.
This was today. I don't know things will evolve. Today I am pleased with
my new wheel, and I do know that Bailey has a good reputation for design,
and as a reputable company.
Hope this helps Rikki, happy in Berkeley.
