speech is silver, silence is golden

Dear Janet, et all...

Well...a line which a friend of mine sometimes uses, (who had his own
Gallery at one time) and one which may easily be comitted to memory, (which
in fact, I have done) is to
reply as...

"Perhaps you should speak with someone who is interested in this issue?"

As if, or for having just heard some hopelessly deal killing question,
comment, criticism, innanity or other...

Then look at them with as blank-neutral of a tired 'sympathy' as one may
muster...

Yes, indeed. But on the occasions when one is absolutely gob-smacked by
inane, rude, contemptible, thoughtless or plain childish comments and/or
behaviour, it can keep the old grey cells busy for days. Lying in bed at
night thinking of all the cute, humorous, sly, informative or equally inane,
rude, contemptible, etc. comments is not good for stress levels, but a
natural side-effect for some people.

My mother was wizard at coming back with a cutting comment, but I am not so
mentally agile. I usually end up just either scowling or smiling inanely and
in real conflict situations, I start shaking like a leaf.

The problem is with all these good retorts Clayarters have come up with... I
know they just will not pop into my brain when I need them. Still, it is
nice to know that others suffer the same brainless behaviour. Thankfully
these "difficult customers" are few and far between.
