travel- ny state, chicago, ohio, minnesota maybe

Clayarters,
As my oldest son is about to enter his senior year of
high school, we are taking a road trip in August, heading
toward the midwest, visiting colleges as well as sites.
We know we will visit our alma maters, Cornell and
Chicago, as well as Rochester, Oberlin. We may try to
make it as far as Madison, or Ann Arbor, or Minneapolis.
So if you would like to have a potter and her family
pitch a tent in your yard, or visit your studio, or more
or less. Or if you have any suggestions ranging from good
liberal arts colleges to gorgeous places to visit or
places to stay, send me an email with the info. (we plan
to visit Niagara Fall, canada side, and the baseball hall
of fame, rock and roll hall of fame too)
(I won't have my traveling pit/saggarfire workshop in
tow, not with sleeping bags and tent and all.)
Best to all,
sweating in humid cambridge
Judy

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Rated #1 or #3 as "private education at
a state university cost." Very very good liberal arts education on the
river. Nice, for the most part wholesome, good midwestern boys and girls.
I graduated there. Hope to go back and teach clay there. I will be firing
my anagama in August. Let me know when you might be coming through and you
may be able to stay out at the farm in Osceola, Wisconsin--45 minutes
outside of Minneapolis.

Thank you.

Sour Cherry Pottery is not far from the Niagara Falls area. Alfred
University is about 2 hours from Buffalo. For camping, Letchworth state
park is beautiful and located just south of Rochester. I think Allegany
state park would be close to Alfred. Try to cross the canadian border as
early in the day as possible.

If you're headed for Ann Arbor from Ohio, you might come through my end
of Toledo/Sylvania. I wouldn't miss a visit to Bowling Green State
University's clay program (John Balistreri's domain) -- for mom, anyway
(you didn't mention what your son might want to study.)

And you're welcome to visit our place, be it ever so humble. We live a
block from the Toledo Botanical Gardens, which has little cottages with
the potter's guild, glass blowers, painters studios, photographers,
lithopanes, rockhounds, and the urban gardens project. One of Laurie
Spencer's huge fired ceramic domes is there, my kids play in it. (It's
the one on the cover of Ian Gregory's book, "Kiln Building".)

We have room for a tent in the back yard. If it's right after payday we
can feed you pretty well... if it's the end of the month, it will be
pasta, beans and garden veggies :0) We always have homemade elderberry
wine and fresh bread. The sign by my door says "fresh eggs and free
range children".

Send me a note if you're passing this way... the Toledo Museum of Art is
well worth a visit, with a nice collection of ancient Greek
black-and-red urns...

Yours, Kelly in Ohio

Sure, Judy. You could pitch a tent in my back yard.
It is hot and humid here as well. I would love to see you
again. Are there three or four of you travelling?
My phone no. is 608/257-3292, so you can give warning and
double-check.

Hi Judy

Us folks in the famous center of culture, Fly Creek, NY are but 4 miles from
the Baseball Hall of Fame and 22 miles from the Soccer Hall of Fame. Since
I live here, I have never been to either, but I've got a couple of acres
available for camping. I'd be really happy for you to drop by -- also have
a couple of guestrooms that would be handy if it ever happened to rain
around here.
My e-mail is anngeiger@catskill.net and my phone number is 607-547-9542.

Regards
Annie Geiger
