This term generally describes unglazed (often burnished)
pottery which is pulled from the kiln while still hot like
raku. Instead of a pit-reduction with combustibles, though,
strands of horsehair are placed onto the hot surface,
where they char and leave interesting patterns behind.

Dear All,
Excuse a rural English potter for showing her ignorance , but what is =
horsehair pottery?
When I started to read the mail, I thought you meant wedged into the =
clay, a mate at college did that with human hair from the hairdressing =
dept. It was a bit gross.
Then I realised that it must be a firing, or post firing technique, but =
we hav'nt heard of it here.
Please can someone tell me?
Dont know if it is relevant, but a smokefiring friend of mine swears by =
sawdust from the local stables, she says the horse wee has magical =
effects, maybe something in common?
Best Wishes
Pat
