I just noticed that the recipe for Randy's Red (as given by Kay Howard) is
about the same as one of my favorite glazes -Touchtone Red from Rebecca
Varner, and Kaki as posted last year by Earl Brunner. All very close. I
LOVE this glaze for all the different looks it can have...navy (thin glaze)
streaked with khaki(medium) with red in throwing grooves (thicker) all that
on the outside of a bowl, for instance, and a great sparkly iron red inside
if the glaze is thick enough AND slow cooled. AND not overfired, etc.

I have never had this glaze run, but I don't do thick on exteriors, usually.

I liked this glaze so much I just mixed up a bucket without the RIO and used
it on some things and it seems nice. I used it over a few underglazes, and
the color showed just fine, with a satin coating. I had the glaze quite
thin. I went to witness cone 7. Next firing I will try it with other
oxides. Have any of you used this as a base glaze for cone 6? Ahhhh, so
many glazes, and I really don't want to have a whole lot....too many
options!
