i  just tried gillespie borate instead of gerstley and had very nice results.  (in a simple cone 6 amber celadon redux glaze of 50% GB and 50% redart). i don't have any comparisons to gerstely, unfortunately.

On my last trip to St.Pete Clay, I had a discussion about Gerstley/Gillespie
and the new mine. Highwater Clay has taken over the pottery supply end of
the complex and Chuck (?) was very helpful and patient explaining all these
new chemicals I was buying...along with Ron & John's Book -- love it! He
said that they did reopen the Gerstley mine but that the supply was very
limited and not expected to produce much longer. He stated that Gillespie
will work just as well, get used to it. I've never used Gerstley, so I'll
never know. Kind of sad...another depleted resource.

WOW, did it storm here today! Dumped buckets for 3 hours, studio started to
flood, lightning cracking around the 70 feet tall cypress trees that surround
my studio finally chased me in. This area is "Lightning Capitol" of the
world...I have a healthy respect.

Hi Lyla,
I also have tried gillespie borate and had good results. Works great in
floating blue.
