Do you know potters in New Zealand, Japan and surrounding areas, India,
Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey or Brazil that are willing to participate in my
Fellowship?
I am currently completing my final year at Vassar College in New York, USA.
I have taught ceramics to my fellow students, and I continue to work
independently on the wheel and in handbuilding. I have been working with
clay since I was 7 years old, and ceramics continues to be my passion. For
this reason, it is the focus of my upcoming project.
The Watson Fellowship (www.watsonfellowship.org) funds a year of
international exploration of a topic of the applicant’s design. I am
proposing to study the impact of the natural environment upon ceramic art in
the abovementioned countries. In addition to visiting historic sites and
museums, I plan on visiting artists whose work is pertinent to my project.
I am looking for possible contacts to artists or potters’ communities in New
Zealand, Japan and Indonesia, India, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and
Brazil that may be willing to participate in my research beginning Spring
2003. Such participation may involve anything from a visit to the artist’s
studio to spending more time for hands-on experience. Any information you
may have will be very helpful to my search for such contacts. In no way
would this involve any cost to any participants, my research expenses would
be funded by the Watson Foundation. At the completion of the Watson
Fellowship, I would include both your assistance and the artist’s
participation in my Fellowship Synopsis.
I would be happy to communicate by email or regular mail, or telephone if
necessary. I have included my contact information below.
Sincerely,
Sasha Natalia Sarokin
