Hi Marianne and all--
Yes, I mix 200 mesh rutile and neph syn about half and half by volume, =
add water to make a relatively thin suspension and spray over (sometimes =
under) RR and sometimes other glazes. Thickness influences the =
effect--I want that gold metallic, shiny effect--too much and it's =
ugly--experiment. (Wasn't someone looking for fall colors?) I've also =
just added some rutile directly to the RR and used it as a topping to =
the regular RR application, either brushed or sprayed. (I do a fair =
amount of serendipitous spraying--my answer to the Kelly syndrom of =
planning too much! Hi Kelly!)=20

The electric blue glaze I got from the Ann Arbor Art Association after I =
was a student there. It is glossy, runny, semi-transparent over light =
stoneware, more opaque it seems over dark clay. A real cobalt blue. It =
works well with other glazes, and personally I haven't found it very =
attractive as an over-all, unrelieved glaze treatment. (and-confession =
time-I do like blue..did I just give up any hope of ever being accepted =
by the PPA? Well, damn!) I don't remember if I gave it the vinegar =
test, but I have bowls that I've used for years that are apparently =
fine. Overlapped with RR it is gold. I've also used it sprayed over R =
& J's waterfall to nice effect (with and without the extra rutile/neph =
syn) only on bowls--I hate chipping stuff off shelves!
