I'm glad to hear your description!
When I mentioned this method a number of months back as a rank =
beginner...
It was something I considered that the more experienced throwers might =
scoff at..
(See "a successful pull")
I use it for really "deep" pulls or soft precision control...
particlarly when the clay is at the threshold of its physical limits.

Another point worth noting is...
(I mentioned it to you earlier in a private post..
this is an elaboration on that technique)
Your description is a vertical S shape compounded into a zigzag pattern =

which double "ridges" the clay.. literally throwing it twice in one go.
You can also advance the horizontal S (see >snip< in "successful pull") =
into a double S... or zigzag too,=20
by fore and after fingering. (please people.. we are talking clay here =
; )
A complex arrangement of knuckles and fingers (kama sutra?)
that reminds me of the guides and rollers on a newspaper printing press.
Everything thing is slotted and aligned into the "die punch" and then =
guided out...
without such it would simply be too much and the clay rips or collapses.

Also very useful when the clay does "buckle" or "crinkle"=20
and a single contact point would "crush" the defect, ruining the pot.
This gives the crucial alignment/support before and after the correction

I'll keep the reverse S in mind for the=20
occasional bowl I throw.. next time I get to the wheel.

ps reminds me of when I was taking a massage
training course and found myself using wrists
then forearm and suddenly elblow and upper
back of the arm...the clay body responds=20
as does the human body, be creative...
and they both come to life..
