Dear Cheryl Hoffman=20
Many commercial bleaches are derived from chlorine compounds. As far as =
I know, the presence of any acid causes a reaction which releases =
Chlorine and this is highly toxic to most living organisms. I suppose =
Iodine dissolved in a solution of Potassium Iodide would work in the =
same way. Less of a hazard from free Chlorine gas if this is generated =
though contact with acids which some people wish to add to their clay, =
but it would be more expensive.
I have never worried about the stuff which grows on the surface of clay. =
But for people who are susceptible to allergic reactions from contact =
with moulds or fungi, then it seems wise to take precautions.
An expensive thought is to add Silver Iodide as a bactericide. Might =
give a double whammy to those microscopic gribbles
Glad you asked.
Best regards,
Ivor=20
