updated fri 30 aug 02

I'm wondering if folks on the list have had a chance to
do some initial experimenting with the new range of ^5
glazes featured in the full-page ad in this month's CM?
What kind of results have you had?

-------The Glazes in question will be shipped to Laguna Distributors
starting the 3rd of Sept. So other than those of us in the Lab who have been
working on the glazes and a few potters who were guinea pigs, nobody has had
much of an opportunity to use them yet.
Check with your local distributor as to the availability of the glazes
and if you have tech questions please contact our Glaze Lab.

I saw the new glazes at NCECA and called them about availability several
times until they finally sent me some samples in pint jars with typed
numbers ( as per the sample chart) on them. No "names" at that time yet.
I've had a chance to use several but hve not crossed the numbers on my jars
with the "names" in the CM shot. I'm not even sure they are all there.
I did notice that they can be quite runny ( I Do fire to cone 6 though) so
watch how low you go on the pots for few times. For most, 3 coats was ok.
The daker browns ran quite a bit., but, real nice on lighter clays. ( I
don't use ny white clays).
One problem I noticed with the blue w/breaking red is that it was hard to
cover and peeled off the first pot I tried it on. I re-glazed the fired pot
and it persists. It was very thin mixed in can, and some are very thick
requiring water thin down. This might possibly been due to being samples
though. I posted a note the other day abut "matting gloss glazes", in fact
this was a response from my tries with these. I'm going to try to knock the
glossy edge off few for my purposes.
