coning and throwing down

While coning as beginners=20
everyone knows that it doesn't just rise up...
like a snake from the basket of a charmer
one needs to get the knack of it.
All too often the inept squeezing and upwards gesture of the hands
attempting to physically coherce the clay into coning... =20
the clay resists and tears off in the hand if you persist...
same with "coning down" all over again...

With more experience one finds that it will rise
with the right inputs even if the hands remain stationary.
Come ooonn Charlie... lets do some magic.
(Anyone who has been to India will get that one)

The essence of throwing down is based on this simple coning technique
compounded with the right forces and pressures... =20
the hands can move downwards and the clay will rise up.. doubly fast.
(see the real McCoy for details)

Cone up to get it started then down to send it off, like a fountain...
straight up...cylinders too.
way cool.
