Lily's post about her centering posture reminded me of my latest newbie =
mistake.
I was centering a bigish (for me) lump of clay to try my hands at =
throwing off the hump. I used a hunk of clay a bit bigger than a Texas =
grapefruit. Well, When centering, I have taken to shoving my elbows =
into my sides and hips, sucking everything up and leaning over the =
wheel. My face is directly over the clay, nose almost touching. I was =
coning up this large mass of clay when my slurry-soaked t-shirt wrapped =
around the cone and tore it off. Once I realized that I was not going =
to be sucked into the wheel of death, I laughed pretty hard, my teacher =
just thought I was a nut.
