What experiences has anyone had using New Castle Refractory silicon =
carbide shelves, particularly 12" x 24 " x 3/4" C-12 fines bonded =
silicon carbide? I would appreciate any evaluations.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim
I hace New castle shelves but they are 1" thick and have never had a
problem with them. For the price of silicon carbide shelves I would get the
thicker ones. We have used ours for the past 15 years in both soda and wood
kilns at our university and are still in great shape.

Jim,
I have their 12x24x1/2" bonded silicon carbide. I have a light coat of
EPK/alumina hydrate wash on top side, light spray of ITC on underside.
They're 4 years old, about 50 firings - cone 10 , light redux. Haven't
flipped them over or anything and there's no sign of any warping or
cracking.

The company was real nice to deal with. One of their sales reps even stopped
in on his way to Kohler Co.one day to see how the shelves worked out and to
chat with little ole me.
