five books

As I was making my list of five books I checked the second hand sites for
EMMANUEL COOPER'S ELECTRIC KILN POTTERY a wonderful book for us electric
kiln potters. I nearly fainted at the price! This on the second-hand/used
market! Lucky me owns the book (which I now will guard with my life!), it
is not an "art book" though very prettily done, but $50 and up?

Maybe this note will convince the publisher to reissue? Or am I dreaming?
(It is early in the a.m.)

The Ceramics Monthly handbooks are invaluable, and Questions Potters Ask
I and II a treasure. About 75% of the questions new potters ask on CLAYART
could have been answered in the privacy of their homes if they owned these
books and the Ceramics Review equivalent. IT IS NOT THAT I AM HOSTILE TO
BASIC QUESTIONS--but that the cold clammy panic, that night of insomnia,
that Job-like self-flagelation-- Oh, what have I done now?-- between
incident and Ron or Vince's answer would be eliminated in many cases!

Tony Birks's books on basic pottery are wonderful, clear, affordable, well
illustrated.

About Rhodes Clay and Glazes and a number of other books: NOVICE BEWARE.
OLDER BOOKS ARE, FROM TODAY'S VIEWPOINT, LIGHTHEARTED ABOUT SAFETY MEASURES
AND MATERIALS TO AVOID. EVERY POTTER, NEW ESPECIALLY , SHOULD OWN ONE OF THE
SEVERAL BOOKS ON STUDIO AND MATERIAL SAFETY, AND REPLACE IT EVERY FEW YEARS,
WHEN NEW EDITIONS COME OUT. THIS IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL BOOK TO GET BEFORE,
I REPEAT, BEFORE BUYING MATERIALS AND SETTING UP THE STUDIO. (I don't want
to see anyone of you unloading that truck of glaze supplies without a proper
mask!)

Are there Ceramics Monthly handbooks besides the two Potter's Tips ones?
And, yes, the older pottery books sell at astronomical prices used!
