I tried Mastering Glazes' Raw Sienna on Tucker's Mid Cal 5 stoneware and was
pleased with the result. Admittedly, I did not slow cool that particular
kiln-load (because of some other glazes), so my results were not quite like
the photo in the book. I got a rich attractive sienna brown that feels
nice. I did some brushwork on top with a commercial black underglaze, and
the brushwork stayed put and came out nice and shiny. I also put a dab or
two of black underglaze on the rim between two coats of the Raw Sienna, and
that looked nice. This was the outside of a vase, so food safety is not an
issue with the use of underglaze over a glaze.
