Since you asked, I have a 15 year old Olympic soft brick raku kiln...only 13
inches shelves, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It will do it all,
and I love mine...made to last, portable, to a point....but you are so
limitied with a fiber one...I have a large electric, and with my electricity
bills so high here, I have tried to come up with a nice look combining
oxidation porcelain and reduction both cone 6...on the big pieces, I use a
transparent celadon look, which I think goes nicely with the orangy, rustic
reduction types.....that helps keep my electric bill below 300 a month
(unbelieveable!) and I have such fun with my reduction....I can do a teapot,
cups, saucers, and and other things below 13 inches in it.....at one
time....I have a big time, can throw a little wood in if necessary, and I
know it is not a cheap kiln, but if you want one to do most everything
except salt or soda, I'd take mine any day. I know it's not a good idea to
rush it, but I can be at 1000 F in one hour, and finish a cone six in2 and a
half, if I want to.....I like to fire a lot anyway, and it's so easy.....I
must say though, that it did help that Lowell Baker came here and he tweaked
it for me.....Melinda Collins, Antigua, Guatemala
