This two-day hands on workshop will explore tools too often neglected in =
the studio: the extruder and the slab roller. Together with participants =
he will investigate extrusion and slab techniques as they apply to =
functional stoneware, using unconventional forming methods and unusual =
approaches to surface decoration, including slip inlay and stretched =
slabs. He will also guide participants in looking at ways to make their =
own tools and modify existing ones to suit their new needs. Participants =
will also learn the basics of how to construct their own custom extruder =
dies.
"My approach to clay is to make everyday objects that go beyond everyday =
use. Function is as much a part of their value to me as any aesthetic =
concerns. How my pots work is at least as important to me as how they =
look and feel...." =20
Self taught potter Hayne Bayless has been producing pots at his studio in =
Ivoryton, Connecticut since 1990. He has been in many national invitationa=
l shows, juried competitions and exhibits.
