Dear Sandra,
I suspect there is a serious technical problem with what you propose. I =
have noticed whenever I have tried this fused glass technique that there =
is serious crazing, even to the extent that some of the glass spalls or =
flakes away from the mass. The thicker the layer of glass, the greater =
the degree of fragmentation.
This may be due to a mismatch of CoE or because the glass was not =
annealed by holding at about 500=B0C for Soda Lime Glass and 400=B0C for =
a lead glass.
When I have been testing glaze recipes by fusing bulk samples in small =
deep bowls I have found that the clay will shear away and fracture at =
the level of the surface of the glass.
If you can solve these problems, the effects can be enthralling.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia.
