I may have found the trouble with my pyrometer. While scrounging a
industrial surplus store (great fun) I found some type K thermocouple
wire. It's a lot heavier and shielded to boot than what I was using. I
know the thermocouples output is only in millivolts, but if the wire
gets hot it will probably affect the readings, especially if the wire is
marginal to begin with.
If anyone suggested this when I asked for advise the first time, thanks.
