Dear Clayarters,
The timer on my Kiln Sitter seems to be stuck wherever I put it and it does
not reduce the time left. Would I be doing the right thing by giving it a
squirt of WD40?
Thanks, Bonnie Staffel

Hi Bonnie,
There are two thin wires that connect your timer to the upper two terminals
of the porcelain switch block (inside the master switch panel on the side of
your kiln). It sounds like one or both wires have burned through. I had
that happen. As I'm using a wall mount kiln controller, I don't rely on the
timer and have just left it non-functioning.
If you want the timer working again you'll have to get it fixed. At the
timer end of this electrical connection the little wires actually enter a
small hole in the mechanism that is behind the timer dial - so it didn't
appear to me that I could just replace the wires, but would have to replace
the timer mechanism as well. Don't have my Dawson manual handy or I'd be
able to provide a name or part number.
Best of luck with it.
