I don't know that uranium oxide will help you do this. Glow in the dark
radiation paint is (or was) a mixture of zinc sulfide (if I remember
correctly) as a fluorescent and some source of alpha particles, usually
radium in the bad old days. I don't recommend this as a home
experiment. Unless you want to join the ranks of the early radium workers
who died of various cancers, often of the lip, from sucking their brushes
to make a point. There is a certain glow from Cerenkov radiation coming
from emitters of fast particles like 1MeV gammas, but I wouldn't like to be
around any bowl which glowed from that source.

If your interested in the glow in the dark aspects, I found this website by
accident, but apparently they seem to be for real. I doubt that uranium is
the key ingredient however. They talk about phospholuminscence as the origin of
their glow in the dark glazes. Patricia Dailey

Hey....... why do you think that Fiesta ware looks so RED! Internal lig=
ht
source from that trace of thorium mixed in with the uranium .
(I'm kidding about the glow. ) =
But please be VERY careful with handling uranium as a colorant. Kinda'
toxic. Check the archives on this subject.
