Jeff -
It is too bad that your higher education experiences and/or whatever
aspirations you had in that direction were such a miserable disappointment
as to leave you so frustrated and sour towards academia. As I have so often
said, academia is what YOU make of it, and apparently you missed the chance
or else you didn't make much of it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with
having chosen another course, either before or during college. There are
other appropriate and effective ways to go where you want to go in art. So
why in the world would you want to try and spoil other people's experience
with your incredibly negative and tiresome rhetoric?

I am not going to waste much of my time trying to change your mind, and
fortunately I am comfortably secure in the knowledge that almost all Clayart
readers will dismiss your irrational rantings without a second thought.

You seem determined to blame graduate school for whatever you see as
negative in the art world. It really is a shame for you, and for anyone
suckered into taking you seriously.
Best wishes -
- Vince

Sorry Janet but have to jump in on this one.
Several weaks ago you, and Vince, defended grad school like it was some sort
of holy grail that every student of creativity should aspire to and yet now
your'e ridiculing that which some of us believe is the very creation of such
experiences.
Where do you think these artist wannbes learned to speak "Artspeak"? Can we
spell g-r-a-d s-c-h-o--o-l?

Real artists/real potters don't come with with ever more creative
(read:bullshit) ways to descibe their work. They simply create their work.
Period.

Its not a "Western" thing its a grad school thing. Teach people how to
bullshit and they bullshit pretty well. Thank acedamia for that!

Dear Jeff,
I think maybe the answer is go to the grad school knowing that they will be
talking the art balls
and take from it what you want/need.
Best Wishes.
Pat.

That was not me Jeff! As far as I recall, I kept well out of the line of
fire on that one... Unusual for me and my big mouth where both my feet
usually end up! I support further education and personal development, but I
am not blind to the short-comings of "the system" as it has developed in
recent years. I am a staunch anti-Art Balls activist and always have been!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser
