I'm glad that this site became a bit
controversial...... mislabeled as "pornographic" ....... otherwise I =
might
not have decided to see what the
shouting was about ...... look at what I'd
have missed!
Of course, it's not even remotely pornographic. But to me that's
not the issue. This is an incredible group
of works from so many perspectives.
Fanciful realism ...... moments of
reality caught in clay!! Made me laugh,
tear up, want to touch, love, want to
know these people ....... what an eye
for life this sculptor is blessed with...=20
Thanks, Lesley.
Reminded me of living in Charleston,
South Carolina, in the late 50s ..... a=20
new mother...... hot, humid, sweltering apartment.... ac
"broke down" all over the city ... people
"sat out" at night, whole families, trying
to "get a bit of cool" .... many neighborhoods
became spontaneous "block parties" .... husband at
sea.... put baby in new red Rambler WITH ac, and drove about
..... saw scenes much like the ones
depicted in these wonderful sculptures.
Had forgotten them ..... vivid now.
Joyce
In the Mojave where energy is returning
as the temperature trickles down ... don't think
the ac has come on once since yesterday
afternoon .... in the desert, most
everything is on hold through July,
August, most of September ...... our
time is coming now; I can feel it in my
bones ....... which reminds me, did you
read "Lovely Bones"? ..... speaking of
different perspectives......

This is good art; I liked everything on the site. Good art evokes
strong feelings. Not everyone likes it nor is the experience the same
for everyone. It often makes different people uncomfortable. For
Marilynn, it made her uncomfortable (she suggested pornographic). I
suggest that hers is a valid response. Joyce and others say, for them
it's not pornographic.
For me, it's not pornographic, but many of the sculptures deal with the
human body, sometimes that makes some people uncomfortable, "angel" for
example, a late middle age to elderly lady, getting her "wings" speaks
to me of inner beauty and youth. I'm beginning to identify more and
more with those bodies that are less than youthful. What the artist(s)
have done here for me is to place that inner beauty in less than ideal
physical bodies, they are "real", not Madison Avenue bodies.
Having said all of that, let's allow others to feel differently then we
do without slapping them in the face. Say it like, "I feel....", I
believe...",
"To me it's....." In the end, the discussion will be much more
productive, and we won't be calling each other "stupid" in essence.
