Here is a base glaze the Ron Roy helped me modify with a small amount of
G.B. in it.
(He helped us move away from the Burkett base published in C.M. years
ago that had 20% GB and 16%
NySy)

Wags Waxy White (Semi-Clear Base) Wonderful feel and surface

Frit 3134 10
G. Borate 10
Custer 14
Wollastonite 24
EPK 23
Flint 19

I have tested it with 5 to 10% Zircopax
Right now we are using it at 7.5 Superpax at Cone 6
(Not a junior cone in Kiln setter. A large cone bent to almost touching)

We also use it with small amounts of cobalt (.25 up to .75%)and 4 to 6%
Rutile
It works well with just Rutile but upwards of 5% begins to pinhole.

A complete move away from G. Borate that Ron worked up for us is,

Talc 11.34
Frit 3134 23.0
Custer 7.6
Wollastonite 23.0
EPK 28.0
Flint 17.5

This glaze is very hard and tested well on the basic tests found in
"Mastering Cone 6 Glazes"

Even better buy the book and use the Base glazes found in there.
Although the top one does have a sweet feel and subdued
gloss.

Good grief - found myself running my own glaze through the calculator to
see if it was OK - the world was upside down for a moment - the first one
looks fine but the second adds to 110.44 so I am thinking there is
something wrong.

If silica and alumina count for durability - and they do - the first one
would test out better - I am willing to bet on that by the way.

A rebuild of the first one with no GB would be:

F 3134 - 22.5
Custer - 7.5
Wollas - 23.0
Talc - 1.5
EPK - 27.5
Silica - 18.0
Total - 100.0

This is high calcium glaze - slow cooling will give different results.

Feels so much better having positive things to say - RR
