I am running into the same problem in my High School classes when I show
work by Dali, Magritte and Picasso to name a few. Most of my students
really appreciate it and handle it well, but it really offends some of
the parents.

It is a tough nut to crack, the best thing has been to be pretty
selective about my choices, but when they get a hold of some of it on
the net it raises a lot of questions about what is appropriate.

One way I have handled it is to show work by Michelangelo and while the
adults love him and his religious art they have to deal with the
question of nudity in a different light.

I would be interested in knowing how other teachers deal with these
problems and I hope this is within the parameters of the list as it
would deal with contemporary pottery and sculpture. For instance the
penis cups and goblets that Dee Schaad (sp?)made for the "Bald Potters"
show in Co. during NCECA.
