Can someone tell me again what the hazards are (to the kiln) in firing
paper clay. I seem to remember a thread a while back and didn't save the
info. A fellow clay worker visited me last night and she works a lot in
paper clay but hadn't heard of any problems. Thanks.

I have not heard of any damage to kilns as a result of using paper
clay. It can smell when you are firing and there might be a bit of smoke but
other than that I have not had any problems. Dawn

I have heard that the junk given off in burning the paper
(either in paper clay or sculptures with paper filling) can
shorten the life of the coils. That makes sense -- I'm sure
it settles on and eventually has some effect on the coils.
I haven't had any problems - except for a headache here and
there. julie
