Dear Mel,
What does mean: pounds only?
I imagine Nigel Wood made the
formula up in pounds.
But... am I wrong if I think that this doesn't make any difference in the
proportions?
And that there is no reason to make a complicated reconversion from pounds
to grams and back to percentages or whatever?
Right or wrong?
Many thanks,
Jeff

In order to get this right we need to know - does 5.5 mean five and one
half pounds or does it meant 5 pounds 5 ounces.

Dear Ron,
you're an attentive reader.
I solved the problem for myself and went to look up one of the books
written by Nigel Wood:
Oriental Glazes, Pitman 1978, p.62.
The recipe 'porcelain glaze' oxi or red 1240-1290C
reads (not in pounds, but percentage) as follows:
Potash feldspar 25
Wollastonite 27
China clay 12,5
BKS(H) ball clay 12,5
Flint 20
Talc 3
I made a little comparison and Mel's recipe is identic. So his 0,7 is not
7 ounces but 0,7 of a pound.
I have never seen a pound scale and didn't know it had a decimal subdivision.
Problem solved.
Greetings, Jeff
