At a workshop I heard some talk about ending the stacking of an electric
kiln which had an enviro-vent with an empty shelf on top. This
supposedly would help keep the glaze looking consist from the top of the
kiln to the bottom. Does anyone have any comments on this? Does it
work? Why?

I don't have an enviro-vent on my elelectric kiln, but I have found if I
leave an empty shelf at the very top, the kiln holds the heat better. My
matte glazes come out very, very nice this way.

Has never worked for me. Definitely helps somewhat but the top shelf is
still cooler. I reserve it for glazes that look better with less heat
and don't care about slower cooling. My bottom shelf as well.
