Axner Co. on tue 1 oct 02
Dear Clay Art Members,
A while back there were a couple of postings saying that the Axner Wheel
had a few bugs to work out. I saw a reference to those old notes posted
today so I thought it would be a good time to address it.
It is true that we had a few bugs to work out and I believe we have
thoroughly done so. We are completely committed to customer
satisfaction. As far as I know, we have completely satisfied the very
small number of people who had expressed a concern. We have learned from
those situations and we have taken steps to assure that they will not
occur again. If anyone else is experiencing any difficulties, we
encourage you to contact us because we want you to be completely and
fully pleased with your Axner Pottery Wheel. In contrast to the few
concerns that have been reported, we have also had many splendid
complements.
We are committed to producing the best wheel available and getting it to
potters at the best possible price.
Regards,
Howard Axner

Hey Howard,
What's the lead time on getting one of your new wheels, and did you fix the
splash pan thing?
Thanks
L

I often post about materials and discounts available at the factory
outlet for Amaco in Indianapolis, "The Brickyard". I don't work for
them, but I sure do use their products. Great underglazes and bright
colored cone 6 glazes. We use a lot of accessories from Axner too.
Remember when Howard just got started? His little boy sure did grow up.
Their first catalog was kind of a "zine"....lots of hard work and long
hours, for sure, to get where they are today.
Without this list it would have been awfully hard to get the word out
that we were redistributing the Peeler Ceramic Videos. Although, Steve
at "The Potters Shop" really did help us a lot too!
Just valuable information for potters and ceramic artists, not lifeless
spam advertising, which we are all sick of.
Just my opinion...

I am a part owner of Axner's and generally refrain from making any comments
on this list regarding the business.
What often occurs is that someone on the list encounters a problem with a
business or product and choses to make the complaint public on the list;
this can prove helpful to those on the list who might be considering making
a purchase.
On the other hand when criticism is leveled at a business by one of the list
participants [sometimes unfairly], it is only fair to allow the business to
respond. Howard's comments were made in response to a former criticism. I
have seen other businesses respond in a similar fashion. I believe this is a
balanced policy and is in the interest of all.

Sorry Ralph....
I haven't noticed any abuse of advertising by Axner or any other vendor.
Frankly I am very pleased vendors pay so much attention to Clayart. Where
else can we get problems addressed, questions answered, false information
corrected as quickly as we do here.
There were issues with the Axner wheel.... packaging as I recall caused
problems with the pedal. I was impressed with the honest and rapid response
by Howard. If I were wheel shopping I would consider Axner because of that
response.
When one of us posts a problem there are likely many more of us that have
had similar issues but have not posted them. I am grateful to have the
answers sometimes before I have the problems!
All I can say is that I really appreciate having so many clay related item
manufacturers monitoring Clayart. I think you will find that we do much more
advertising ourselves by recommending or asking about tools, equipment, and
service. I do not mind this at all because in the same vein we inspire
improvement with our complaints.
Chill out... just be glad we do not have pop-up windows advertising the
Flo-B (hair cutting tool that attaches to your vacuum cleaner)!->

Ralph -
You saw that as advertising? I think you are overly sensitive. I saw it as
informative and considerate. If anyone starts using Clayart for
advertising, I am sure they will get shut out quick. Mel will see to that.
In the mean time, I really appreciate it when vendors like Howard Axner,
Arnold Howard, Stephen Lewicki, Jon Pacini, and other vendors post useful
information about their products. As long as they are doing it in the
spirit of sharing useful information, then it is welcome.
Best wishes -
- Vince
