As long as a manufacturer provides real information
to the list, I'd consider it appropriate. We all
need information - that's what the list is for. And
manufacturers are more likely to have accurate up-
to-date information about their products than anyone
else is. (And compared to mass-market advertising,
even their paid ads contain more useful information
than most other sources.) ;) I welcome input from
Howard Axner and all the other manufacturers and
product reps out there. Cheerleading, I can live
without, but I've seen very little of that from any
of the 'connected' folks on this list. If Howard
Axner's competitors wish to monitor Clayart and post
to the list, they are also welcome. As far as I know,
everyone who has posted info relating to products
they profit from has been quite open about that
relationship. I can make up my own mind about the
possibility of bias. The chances of anyone unfairly
influencing buying decisions is pretty small, with a
whole list full of opinionated folks ready to rebut
any unsupported contention!
I've never bought anything from Axner's, but we all
owe a lot to the ceramics suppliers out there, even
those folks who do it all from scratch. Suppliers
play a big role in supporting their customers, which
in turn helps buoy up the broader ceramic-art world.
We're all in this together - manufacturers,
suppliers, artmakers, dealers, critics, teachers,
buyers. I welcome their contributions to Clayart,
'disinterested' or otherwise.
