Thank you very much

Here you go!

Watch out for the Barium. Maybe when RR has time he can redo it without
the Barium and we can all sleep better at night.

Feldspar 1152 Custer 43

Whiting 12.8 0.5

Dolomite 409.6 15.2

Talc 83.2 3.1

Ball Clay 246.4 9.1

Flint 128 4.7

Ochre 9.6 0.4

Barium 640 (BE CAREFUL...TOXIC!) 24

Zirocpax 384 14.3%

Iron 76.8 2.8 %

Bentonite 50 2.0 %

Put it on thin in mild to medium reduction.

HI CW,

Easy to do - just check the numbers in your original Charles - to make sure
I got it right from your post.

Comments - expansion is high in the original and the SiO2 is way low
(normal for matte type glazes) so I'm sure it will leach barium and
probably change colour in use with foods. Strontoum may be the prefered
flux in this case - irons are favoured in my experients - more yellow.

If anyone has the time and inclination I for one would like to hear the
results of all three glazes colour wise - fired in the same kiln beside
each other.

Revision #1 with SrO subbed for BaO (I took out the whiting and increased
the dolomite and adjusted the talc down - exactly the same glaze - except
the expansion goes down when you sub SrO for BaO. Expansion is still high
though.

Custer - 43.0
Dolomite - 16.0
Talc - 2.0
Ball clay - 9.0 (I used OM#4)
Silica - 4.5
Ochre - 0.5
Strontium Carb - 18.0
Zircopax - 14.0 (Can use Ultrox or superpax)
Red Iron - 2.5
Bentonite - 2.0
Total 111.5

Revision #2. Same glaze but CaO subbed in for SrO and BaO - expansion
still lower but still high. I have not adjusted body of glaze to 100 in
either revision.

Custer - 43.0
Whiting - 13.0
Dolomite - 15.0
Talc - 3.0
Ball clay - 9.0 (I used OM#4)
Silica - 4.5
Ochre - 0.5
Zircopax - 14.0 (Can use Ultrox or superpax)
Red Iron - 2.5
Bentonite - 2.0
Total 107.0

Keep in mind - I have not changed the basic glaze - it will still be
affected by some acidic foods. There will not be any toxins present though.
Best to do the lemon test to see if colour will be affected on surfaces in
contact with food.
