natural gas needs for raku

I am trying to set up a raku station for a high school situation.
The Fire Marshall says no propane in the courtyard behind my room. I
have only rakued with propane. It might be possible to run natural gas
to the site. Does anyone know how large a line or how much preasure is
required to fire raku? Also, will my venturi burners work with drilled
out orfices or will I need a blower?

I have a gas kiln built from fiber board running on natural
gas, and I easily can reach a stoneware temperature.
So you definetely can run a raku kiln on natural gas!
The pressure is not much I'm having. I just have one very big
ventury burner. The pressure is that low that I cannot even
regulate it with a needle valve, I just use a normal tap. It
works.
If you want more details about the burner I'll will look it
up for you.

You can fire raku on ordinary household pressure with
natural gas. I've done that for a long time. You will need
to change the orifices in your burners, but that's easily done.
You can use a blower to fire more quickly, but one is not
necessary, in my experience.

Thanks for the tip. I'll just have them run a line out and we'll make
the best of it.

You should be able to replace just the orifices
with the natural-gas-sized type.
