kiln related legal case that could be precedent setting.....

Thank you, John Baymore, for your
thorough report on the Susan Beecher
woodfiring case which is impending
in the Catskills .... and for taking the
time to interview Susan B. before
writing it. So many gaps were filled
in that I now feel knowledgeable enough
to write a letter to their Town Council.

It seems that I recall a situation described
on Clayart which happened in British
Columbia .... on an island between the
mainland and Vancouver island. In
that situation, a claybud requested logical
reasons why an operating woodfire kiln did not have to be hazardous to =
its rural neighbors.=20

The claybud needed data to present to a similar council. She received =
a
magnanimous supply of posts which
detailed the positives for a woodfire=20
kiln operation ..... extrapolated what
she needed ...... and, if my memory
holds, the local group was able to
continue their woodfiring activities.

Does anybody else recall this? Did
anybody save those posts? I don't
recall the year but it was post 1996
which is when I first came on the
list. I think it was my friend Veronica Shelford who made
the request ... maybe on Thetis Island..
concerning the environmental impact
of their group's tozan kiln (?). (I may
have the wrong island as well as the wrong
name for the very long kiln. At any rate, I think it
was an anagama.)

Joyce
In the Mojave pleased to think of
Veronica.... haven't heard from her in
a very long time ..... used to be a major
contributor to the list ..... did beautiful
work .... hope the kiln is still functioning....
and the group/guild/society ..... Les,
come to think of it, isn't that the group
with which you work? Is the kiln in
Nanaimo on Vancouver Island instead
of Thetis?
