fiber kiln itc coating

A friend of mine has a new 25 cubic foot fiber lined GAS kiln. It has never
been fired and before firing he was considering coating the fiber with ITC
or another coating. I told him that I would post to the group.

Any suggestions or experiences ?

If you don't coat your fiber kiln with itc, plan on using a respirator every time
you load, unload or do maintenance. The itc will also protect the welded stud
connectors. I wouldn't have a fiber kiln without it. My only question is whether
it would be better to fire it once or twice and get some of the shrinkage out of
the way before applying it. If the fiber isn't compacted well it can shrink away
from the itc.
