Bruce,
By all means spray the kiln. Fire it a couple times first like Don said.
Then spray the whole thing with water first before applying ITC. The
inventor of the product advised me to apply one thin coat, fire it, then
another thin coat to ensure the best bond. I would be especially careful not
to go too thick on the roof, just to be safe. I sprayed my kiln already, now
i am in the process of doing all my shelves and eventually kiln posts as
well.
